angels will be practicing this afternoon over the bay. if you look up you'll see them. let's turn to our solo reporter live along the embarcadero talking about some of the action and what is going on. hi, yoli. >> it kicks off today. and it's here at pier 30, 32 with the u.s. macon island carrier. they are starting it off with the two-day seminar on disaster response andheim attorney relief -- humanitarian relief. you have the mayor of san francisco coming down to give opening remarks to the seminar. then we go later on in the day with the practicing of the blue angels. so you are going to see them around 1:00. that is when you can start looking in the air and they will do a couple of passes. around 3:00 they will start doing some practice maneuvers as well. let's show you video of them from last year. this is what is going to be a very busy weekend. of course they will be doing a show on friday, saturday and sunday. aside from the blue angels, the headliners, you also have a bunch of other aircraft that are going to be doing a show. that starts earlier in the day. so really all the sho

angels arriving at sfo and now one of their own got the hot -- they take a ride with the precision flying team. grant was giving us yesterday afternoon, but it wasn't the only one. captain, you see him there suiting up. yeah, he's that danville pilot. you know him. he landed the u.s. airways flight safely back in the hudson river. he was there he flew the flighter jets in the air force in 1970s it was like being a kid all over again when he got to suit up. then it was grants turn, there you see him getting briefed, walking up the little ladder there to get the cockpit. he took grant through the whole thing and really put him through the ringer. we've got 6.2gs. we hit it on the take off which is pretty good. we hit 6.2 in the break coming back here. you fought it off. you stayed awake the whole time that was good. we did break the speed of sound so we went mock 1.03 so how many people in the world can say that's done that's pretty good too. there's a lot more where that came from later on on the kron4 news we're going to have more from captain silly and greaten as well so they'll be kind

weather in the forecast. if you are heading out this weekend to watch the blue angels coverage. it looks like it will be fog in the early morning hours. some sunshine may be in the afternoon. >> it will be cooler conditions for tomorrow and by the weekend it may be some rain fall. the rain changes increase as we head into next week. >> there is already a backup at the metering lights. right now we are looking at a 14 minute drive time coming out of the macarthur maze. it is still a pretty good drive time and it is about 11 to 12 minutes. your commute for the golden gate bridge and 1 01 south bond is still about 23 to 25 minutes. let's take a look at what is on on on the south bay freeway. they're starting to pick up a little bit of slowing. the drive time is now at 19 minutes. 85 and the west valley freeways still looks ok no delays here. darya >> a fire in oakland since four people some place else to live. they are going to have to stay at a hotel. about 1:00 p.m. at an apartment building. the firefighters were here to make sure that there were no more hot spot in the inside. this was a

. these are various projects. los angeles storm drain system. they raised the dam. your water is a product of pw a. they built the sacramento water reservoir. the fans were so well built that in fact, they are still in use. the engineers said we have to replace a ball bearing. we of course, have neglected our infrainstruct our and it's rated to be a d and dropping. so if you don't pay your taxes, things do fall down. much of it is things that were built during the new deal. fortunately, they built them very well. so the stuff was really built to last. but, if you don't have taxes to run a state. i expect we will see more of that stuff. i will give you a brief tour that we take for granted. the commitment to public education in all its manifestations. public schools from kindergarten to higher education. there are thousand of new deal schools built within less than ten years. many have art work in or on them. this is berkeley high school. you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. the schools are always telling you that public education can make you better. it should be free. now,

of washington d.c. this is right outside of the co-op. and then urban roads like this in the los angeles river and this is being built. this is mira loma park. this is lark merced blvd. it's all made of clay. it's going to slump. these are the roads built in the oakland hills. nate, red woods. skyline. and enabled them to go up and develop the hills. the rural roads that go through the coast range. this enabled them to get their stuff to market. this is at road built by the ccc. this is a bridge. this is highway one and you won't know, except you look at the bridge and you will see dates, 1938, 1939. the airstrips are ccc. and the one out at treasure island. long beach, burbank. this is oakland and the whole built line railroad was redone. 19 is a pwa project and our great amphitheatres are from that time. this is santa barbara bowl. this is the forest theater in carmel and these are ccc workers putting huge bolder. here's 6 thousand people getting ready to enjoy oklahoma in that theater. big basin is a ccc project and this one, on the east river, new york. a project built where people from th

los angeles say work is right on schedule to reopen a ten mile stretch of one of the world's busiest freeways by tomorrow morning's commute. take a live look at the 405 interstate over the pass connecting west l.a. to the san fernando valley. the freeway has been shut down since friday night while crews demolish an overpass. it's being called carmageddon 2 because of the potential to create a traffic nightmare throughout l.a. if work doesn't get finished in time. last year was carmageddon 1 and the first phase went just fine. this time caltran says so far so good. >>> a record number of riders are taking caltrain so now the system is adding six more trains starting tomorrow. two will be brand new trains. four others that were mothballed because of budget cuts are being restored. caltrain is also rearranging its schedule to give passengers greater flexibility. it is also adding a silicon valley stop for twelve limited service trains in. in june caltrain averaged 50,000 riders every weekday. >> lisa argen is describing a mini heat train. >> that's a good way to put it. the forecast for

angeles is getting a face-lift. the first time in almost 35 years. our reporter lauren savan is live near the landmark right now. that famous sign, what are they -- what are they doing to it? >> well, you know, it's one of the most iconic signs in the world. and they say it's been 35 years since it has had it's last refurbishing. well, they starting today, they are going to do an ex-- they are going to do an extensive cleaning. they are going to strip it, power wash it, prime it and repaint it. unlike most hollywood stars that get face-lifts. they are gonna do the front and the back. this will take eight to ten weeks. it will go through about 275 gallons of paint. 110 gallons of primer. when it is done, it will become fresh and new for generations to come. this sign has come around since 1923. that's when it was put up by -- but back in 1949, they took off the land part, it became the iconic hollywood sign and it has been touched up here and there throughout the years. but it was not until 1978 that hugh hefner decided that those -- that those letters needed to be replaced. they had termi

this morning," bill whitaker in los angeles. >> jon miller joins us now. good morning. what happened here? >> well, they're still piecing it together. but the preliminary information -- and because it's preliminary and this is confusing, that could change. but what appears happen is they're executing a drug warrant on a location. they have a surveillance team on the perimeter. so far that's all routine. this car comes out from around the location and somebody gets on the radio to the perimeter surveillance team and says check that car out before it leaves the area, thinking maybe the suspect is hiding in the back or in the trunk. so this border patrol agent goes to engage the car and say stop, and that's where the story gets foggier, because what we don't know is how did he identify himself? did he have his badge on a chain? did he clearly state police? what we do know is that this thing went horribly wrong. it's possible that from the perspective of the driver, ms. alvarado, she may have seen a guy in plain clothes possibly with a weapon and thought i'm being carjacked and tried to drive
